Abstract
The intersec on of cinema and Catholic theology has long been a terrain of both conten on and
possibility. While mainstream cri cism o en accuses film of moral laxity and secularism, this
review challenges that no on, exploring how film, par cularly within African contexts, can be a
space for theological reflec on and moral engagement. Innocent Ebere Uwah’s Moral Dilemmas
in Discourse of Cinema, Ethics & Society (2024) contributes meaningfully to this discourse by
arguing for a more ethical approach to cinema c representa on. The review evaluates the
structure, content, and implica ons of Uwah’s work through a theological and cri cal media
studies lens, foregrounding its relevance to faith communi es, African cultural produc on, and
global cinema ethics. Recommenda ons are offered for ecclesial and academic ins tu ons to
deepen their engagement with film as a tool for moral instruc on and social transforma on.
